Finishes in 2018!

2018 was a year I have dedicated to getting some quilts finished.  I have really been enjoying thread sketching for the past few months, but had several that didn't quite get the quilting and binding done.

This girl is quickly becoming a favourite of mine and I enjoy having her do fun and quirky things.

This flower was a coloring page that I looked at for inspiration, drew on fabric and then outlined in black thread. I let it hang on my design wall for a week and decided it must have colour.

I took a break from thread sketching in January as I had this concept in my head that I simply had to try on fabric. Here is  a snapshot of what I was trying to achieve.  Full pic coming soon=)

As a treat to myself I bought several different sized drunkard path templates and will start playing with those soon!

More Thread Painting

I sat down today and did some experimenting with some heavier threads. I have never used the 100% cotton threads and was nervous about thread breakage. But I put in my metallic needle and had great success.

This piece is about 10 x 10, and I just wanted to get more practice. You can see in the outline of the butterfly, I did some bobbin work. I wound some embroidery floss around the bobbin, turned the project upside down, and outlined the butterfly.

I am enjoying the thread painting and plan to use it on my next art quilt.

Thread Painting

I have never taken a course on thread painting, so am not completely aware of the techniques it requires. But I wanted to give it a try so made a small wallhanging for a friend who recently gave me a bunch of delicious fabric to match my upcoming art quilt. This was a piece she thought I could do something with as the fabric had such a pretty pattern. So I did, I made her an art quilt!

The first image is my initial finished product. But I didn't like the way the stems and leaves were so light. So I took the piece and put it back under the machine. I apologize for the blurriness of the final product and the way it hangs. I was in a rush as it was being delivered as soon as I was finished. It does hang straight and does look way better after I darkened up the stems and leaves.

The middle picture is a close up shot of one of the flowers.

I enjoyed this process and think I will use it again.
