Modern Quilt Contest Winners Announced!

Congratulations to the winners of the first ever Modern Quilt contest hosted here!

First a huge shout out to Amanda Herring Designs and Troll Brother Quilt Designs for sponsoring such great prizes!

I asked a certified quilt judge to judge the quilts and was lucky enough to get one of the Canadian Quilt Judge instructors to judge the contest.

In Canada through the Canadian Quilters' Association, we have a Quilt Judge Certification Program that is 3-5 years in length.  Joyce Brown and Judy Villett are the 2 instructors that teach this program in Modules. There are 5 modules to the program.

Module 1 can be a benefit to anyone and consists of:
  • A one-day class designed to give an introduction to judging
  • Designed for anyone thinking about becoming a Judge, Scribe, Juror, or Aide
  • Also for those interested in organizing a judged show, entering a judged show or broadening knowledge.
The instructors will also travel to teach Module 1, if you or your guild are interested in something like that. They also offer it at the Quilt Canada conference in Ottawa this coming June.

Joyce was kind enough to judge the contest. So without further ado, here are the comments from our esteemed judge:

1st place is # 11 Bluebird Sunset.
From the Judge: 'Subtle, but effective illusion of a bluebird. The quilting lines bring emphasis to the branch and bird as is the sun is setting directly behind it.'

The winner will receive a $75 gift certificate from the awesome Troll Brother Quilt Designs!

2nd place is #14 Linda S.
From the Judge: 'The contrast between the quilted circles the straight lines add movement and depth. The lighter strips of green make the vertical stripe appear to be floating up.'

The winner receives a $50 prize sponsored by the talented Amanda Herring Designs!

Judge’s Choice - 'which I’d love to hang in my home is #9 Spira Mirabillis. The colours and how it looks like cells from an acrylic pour bring movement and life to this piece.'

Joyce also had this to say about all the entries, 'This was fun. You had some great entries with very different pieces.'

Thank you to all who entered and to our incredible sponsors and Judge!

Fabric for Life Contest

How does this sound?   I get an email from a legit business and a man I have dealt with before and he tells  me about this 'Fabric for Life' contest and perhaps I could share it!

Yes, I do want to share it with all of you....how amazing would it be to win?   The details are you get  52 yards of fabric, your choice for 20 years!   Um, that is so much better than, well, anything.

I should mention, that I don't get anything for spreading the word, I just think it is a really cool contest.

Here is where you go and enter.

If one of you wins, you have to tell us, so we can have a super big blog party!!!   Fingers crossed for all of you=)

A Reminder

I love getting mail!   Today was no exception.   I got my zippers from Jennifer at Zipit on etsy, and my zipper pulls.   Look at these fun ones she sent!

Now if you order soon, Jennifer is giving a 15% discount on her etsy store to all my fab followers.  See this post  for the coupon.  And I am going to be a tutorial for the design team on my zippered pouches, which will require a 8.5" zipper or 10" total length.
I am also going to be showcasing some very funky zippered flowers as soon as I get playing with my zippers.

One last thing, please go and vote again, see my bar to the right, where it says 'vote', hit the flower and give me a vote.   You can do it every day right up till May 24th, and I would soo appreciate it1

Thanks super fabulous followers=)

Vote for My Quilt

My quilt 'Whimsical Wonder' is one of 93 quilts to be approved for a McCall's quilting contest.   I would love it if you would go and vote for it.  Or at the very least, vote for one you like.   I believe you can vote every day from now till May 24th.

All you have to do is on the right side of your screen, on my menu selection at the top, you will see a pic of my quilt (colourful flower) and it says 'Vote for Whimsical Wonder'.  Click on the quilt and go vote!

Pretty please with a pile of sugar, chocolate, ice cream, sprinkles and hot fudge brownie sauce on top?

Thanks a bunch, super awesome followers.

Amy Butler contest

Fabulous fabric designer Amy Butler has a contest on right now. Using a specific line of her fabric, you have to create something. My niece was up for the past two weeks and her birthday is in October. Her mom said she would love a belt, so I killed two birds with one stone and made her a belt out of the Amy Butler fabric.

Just to make you all laugh, I have been searching for ric rac lately, kind of like my button fettish. My button drawer is quite full now, I even had someone, a dear friend, deliver me a box of fabulous buttons. And I spent some time last weekend sorting them by colour. But I digress, I haven't been having much luck finding ric rac at a good price. But after some investigative internet searching I found a batch of it at a very good price. Here is where you may let out a giggle, when I say batch of it, I mean a good chunk of assorted colours, and by good chunk I mean 75 yards of it. Yes, that previous sentenc is correct, 75 yards. So you should see some art quilts coming out of here with ric rac, if not, I will just sew it all into a big dress and give it as a birthday gift to the next friend whose birthday is coming up!
