Catching Up, A Winner, and a Funny Story

I really admire anyone that can thread paint. The time I tried it, it was horrible. I had to toss it and didn't start over. Maybe I need better instructions?

I have been whining  tolerating a cold all week that has basically left my brain in a fog.  Not a good thing when trying to meet deadlines!
Thankfully I think I am on the downhill run now.

Take a look at this luscious fabric by Riley Blake Fabrics!  It is called 'Serenata'.   LOVE this company to bits.  Seriously they are the best!   This is not quite the whole collection.   There are a few fat quarters missing from it, for a secret mission.  

 Now what fun things can I create with the rest of it?   I am thinking something a little 3D with a shot of modern?  

In the meantime, I got this fantastic iron on book from my dear friend RT.   I just had to try it out.  I have a plain grey pair of capris.  I was contemplating putting jumbo ric rac on the bottom, but wondered if that was bordering on 'crafty crazy' and not just crafty?   Instead I tried one of the iron on patterns on the cuff of the capris.

What do you think?  Cute?   Crazy?   Quilters will run in the other direction?

I have a bucket list.  Most of it is quilt related.   Okay, all of it is.   I have been getting it done, slowly but surely.   Last year I stroked a big one off-going to a Quilt Market.   That still seems surreal to me.   Another one, as you probably know is getting a quilt accepted into the IQA Houston show.   About as many times as I have entered Houston, I have sent submissions into Quilting Arts magazine.   I won't tell you how many submissions I have sent, because you might tell me to give up.   Anyway, this is the second time this has happened to me.  I send in a submission, tell them why I like their magazine, and bam..... the next magazine has my quote in it.   See the middle column below, that says 'I am a 3D art quilter'....yep, that's me.   

I refuse to tell myself that this is as close to getting published in this magazine as I am going to get.  I wonder if after so many submission, you get a pity acceptance?   Probably not, but one can hope=)

I'm a new follower. I am delighted to have found your blog. I love the tutorial, especially the loopy grosgrain leaves.

I have already contacted them and will send them my hand dyed fabric.

Now, here is what I finished up yesterday.

It is another of my 3D quilts.   The butterfly is also very much three dimensional and it along with the centre of the flower has a beautiful red crochet lace couched around the edge of them.

The centre of the flower is a fabric covered button using my new Itop tool.   Very cool I might add!

Lastly, my very good news is that effective June 30, 2012 I will be joining the Board of Directors for Canada's Quilting Association.  I am very excited to be part of such a fabulous team that does so many proactive things for quilters in Canada.   I can't wait to meet all the wonderful quilters across our great country!

I think we may sneak in one more giveaway before Christmas.   I will be back next week to show you the progress of my art quilt.  For now, here are some stockings I hand dyed with Kool Aid.  They are made out of Pellon batting.  As soon as they post the tutorial on their website, I will let you know.  

Good Stuff and What I Am Up To

First let me tell you that I am realizing that you don't have to physically meet a person in order to call them 'friend'.   I have some friends that I consider some of my closest yet I have never met them.  They know who they are and are very near and dear to my heart.   With that lovely introduction, let me show you what came in the mail today.

This absolutely gorgeous sewing caddy by Linda C. Teufel.  The fabric is Jane Sassaman!   You have heard of Linda C. Teufel, you just don't know it.  She is the force behind Dragon Threads Publishing, and to quote from her blog:

On another blog related topic, I met Cheryl from Muppin.com about two years ago.   I haven't 'met' her but we have chatted to each other on a regular basis for a long time now.   She is now rocking the quilt art scene with her quilts that light up.   Literally.   So much so, that 'Quilting Arts' magazine has published her work and she is now friends with the infamous Pokey Bolton.   


If you are just now following my blog, you know that I would love to meet Ms. Bolton.  She finds quilt artists and exposes their talents, showcases them and is a genuinely nice person.   
Back to my story, Cheryl,  sent me this in the mail today:

Would I sound like a schmuck if I told you that when I opened it up and read it, my face went so pale and my hand started shaking that my husband rushed over to ask what was wrong!  Heaven forbid I actually meet her someday=)

I have been working on my latest art quilt.  I got it all pinned today.   I really detest that part of quilting.   My back just kills me from taping it to the floor, putting the three layers on and pinning the whole thing together.   I even started quilting it.   Here it is all pinned.

Okay, you better sit down for this one.   My dream is to go to Quilt Market and Festival in Houston.   If you are not quite as obsessive as I am about Quilt Market, this is where all the fabric companies, book publishers, and anyone in the business related to quilting go and showcase their products.

It is closed to the public.   Quilt shop owners and the like go and see what is new, order the hottest fabric lines etc.   It is the be all and end all of the quilt world.  Literally.   Some of Amanda's design team went this year.  Namely Candice, Brooke, Sally and Julie.

These girls were super friends before they went, but they have broken the 'amazing meter' by what they did while they were there.   This is where I should mention that a while ago, I was teasing them when they were making plans for market.   I told them if they ran into Pokey Bolton, the grand puba of 'Quilting Arts' magazine and so many other things, tell her I said hi.

Tonight when I opened my email, there was one from Sally with the subject line stating, 'Special for Jackie', upon opening the email was this picture:

That is Pokey on the left and Sally on the right and Julie taking the picture!!!   They went right up and met her and asked if they could have her picture for me!  Do I not have the best friends in the world?
I have no idea when I will get sleep again.    That is just so freakin' cool.   I could go on and on about this, but at some point you may get a little bored.  Feel free to email me privately if you would like me to continue gushing about the coolness of this event.
