Fun-Size Quilts

WOOHOOO!!!!   Seriously you have no idea how excited this makes me!   I am one of the designers in this book! I would write this whole post with exclamation marks! But then you might really think I have way too much enthusiasm=)

Fun-Size Quilts is a book by Martingale comprised of quilts all made using a handful of fat quarters.Sigh...you should see the talented quilters in this book - Melissa Corry, Jeni Baker, and Julie Herman to name a few.

Martingale - Fun-Size Quilts

Here is my quilt.
My Little Garden by Jackie White

I made it one day when I felt like playing with my favourite embellishments - ric rac and buttons. You may also notice that other than the background, all the fabric is covered in polka dots. This quilt just makes me smile=)

All the quilts are different and so unique. Here are a couple to wet your appetite. This one is by Heather Valentine. Don't you love her whimsical flowers?

'Garden Variety' by Heather Valentine

Missy Shepler grabs your attention with this bold modern quilt. I can't wait to try this one to see how she made this.

'Elongated Triangles' by Missy Shepler

How adorable are the little foxes made by Jeni Baker?  She always can turn a quilt into something you just want to have in your home.
'Fox in a Box' by Jeni Baker

my fav embellishment is beads and buttons.

Hand embroidery or appliques...not a fan of beads and stuff on a quilt that would be "used"...but on a wall quilt...anything goes! :)

My favorite embellishment has to be buttons. Love the variety.

I would have to say buttons. There are so many different types out there

I favor decorative stitches like Buttonhole/Blanket stitches.

I like using buttons to help embelish my quilts. I make a cat quilt and I used buttons for the eyes. Fun-sized Quilts would be a wonderful way to introduce yourself to a world of minis, using fat quarters in a very creative style. Thank you for the chance to win a copy of this quilt book.

I once made some Christmas tree wall hangings with hot fix crystals on them and that was pretty cute. Generally I don't do a lot of embellishment since most of my quilts are made to be used, and therefore washed.

I like lace as an embellishment. I don't add it often because I want to save some for that elusive some day quilt.

Louise said...

I'm a new quilter, and I haven't tried any embellishments yet. But I love the look of brightly colored embroidery, so that's probably where I'll start. A mini quilt would be a good first embellishment project!

Beads are a fun embelishment! Love these fun sized quilts & Hope to win!

So far, the only embellishments I've really used were fancy threads for hand-tying.

Buttons!! I have a huge jar of all sorts of them.

Robin McGuire said...

I love using rick rack, along with buttons and embroidery.

My favorite embellishment is the thread. Most of my quilts are meant to be used - bed quilts, baby quilts. I don't do a lot of art projects so I don't embellish a lot. However, the thread I use can really enhance the quilting which to me embellishes the quilt. I prefer a variegated thread for the color movement and the depth it adds to the quilt.

I would have to say hand beading is my favorite way to spice up my art quilts. Just enough sparkle to draw the viewer in for a closer look to find other hidden surprises.

My favorite embellishment was what I could find in my daughter's scrap booking supplies. But she has taken that stash to Colorado Springs to her new home so now I need to find a new source. Hmm - I am visiting her shortly - I wonder what I can find to bring back home with me. :)

Karen said...

If you count quilting as an embellishment, then I choose quilting! I have not tried it yet, but textured blocks, like with pin tucks or gathering, look cool.

jrt14 said...

I do not have a favorite embellishment. I will use embellishments to accent a project, but I normally do not make stuff that calls for a lot of embellishments in the design of the project. I have used buttons, beads, and hand stitching to add to stuff in the past.

Buttons!! Followed close behind by rickrack, ribbon, embroidery...I love it all! :)

Beautiful quilt, congratulations!

I've picked up bits of vintage ribbon & lace here and there, so I'd pick that, except that I've never had the guts to cut it up & use it!
