My Quilt Hung at Market and Festival In Houston!

I hired peeps for photography.   Good peeps, the quilting kind of peeps.  And by hired I mean I asked a favour, both of whom I had only met once in real life.   But you know quilters, you meet them once, or you virtually meet them online... you have friends.  For life.

These are good peeps.  I heard one was going to Quilt Market in Houston, the other to Quilt Festival there.   I sent one email saying that my quilt was selected to represent Canada in an exhibit being shown at both venues, if they saw it could they please take a picture.  That is one big dream on the bucket list - to get to Houston Quilt Festival.

Get this, both delivered the goods or should I say jpeg.  On the same day they got home!   And no doubt they were tired from travelling, from walking the show floor, from taking workshops, but they took the time to email me a pic of my quilt hanging at that elusive Houston Quilt Festival and Quilt Market.

Those are good peeps.   Thank  you C and C!   You made my day.

Here she is 'A Ripple In Time'.   It has been gone for six months.  It went to the CQA/ACC National Juried Show in Canada directly to AQS Paducah, and from there to Houston.   How amazing is that all those organizations were willing to send the quilt to it's next destination without rerouting it home.   Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to enter it into all those shows as the timelines were too tight to make it home and ship it back out again.   Quilters rock!

It will be on its way home this week.   I can't wait, I love having the opportunity to display my work.  But I like my quilts to come home, it is like a part of me is back.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

I am sitting at home feeling quite sorry for myself that I am not at Quilt Market right now, where several friends of mine are.   I was perusing through my favourite blogs when I saw this from Amy's Creative Side and it was just the pick me up I needed to shake off my quilting blues.
She is hosting a Blogger's Quilt Festival with a gazillion prizes (that may be a slight exaggeration) but you simply must check it out, if not for the sole purpose of seeing all the quilts entered.   You can enter a quilt you made this year.   I chose to enter my 'Ripple In Time'.

Ripple In Time
54" x 54"
Designed and Machine Quilted by me
200 crystals applied, hand embroidery, free motion quilted
Best Category:   Art Quilt,  Wall Hanging,  ROYGBIV Quilt

Wish me luck!  Why don't you enter too, it is going to be fun and almost made me forget about missing Sample Spree, well almost....

I Got In to the National Juried Show....twice

All week I have been faithfully going to the mailbox to see if my letter came in from the Canadian Quilters' Association telling me if my quilts got into the NJS  (National Juried Show).  The deadline to find out was this Friday.   I went today and nothing.   I didn't know how I was going to wait two more days, but when I opened my email up this afternoon, I found this:

On behalf of the CQA/ACC Board of Directors, I am pleased to inform you of the acceptance of your entry “Rhythm 'n' Blues” for exhibition in the 2012 National Juried Show (NJS) to be displayed at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

and another email that said this:

On behalf of the CQA/ACC Board of Directors, I am pleased to inform you of the acceptance of your entry “A Ripple in Time” for exhibition in the 2012 National Juried Show (NJS) to be displayed at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

So, do you know how hard it is to type this post while jumping up and down?   Very very hard!   And I went to our guild meeting tonight and didn't tell anyone, cause you know when you do it in person that seems like bragging.   But this is telling my favourite peeps and that just seems good, ya know?

Here are my two darlings that are going to Halifax, Nova Scotia:

Now to figure out how to go to sleep=))

Introducing....A Ripple in Time

I have all my fabric dyed and am in the process of ironing and cutting.   Here is a question for you awesome peeps:    What size of fabric do you like to buy?  (pretend it is my hand dyed stuff)  Fat quarters, 1/2 yards or 1 yard pieces?

And you have been so patient in waiting to see 'A Ripple in Time'.   Here is the write up that goes with it:

It describes the past summer where I would work away on my quilt wherever my children were playing.   I would haul it outside on the deck as they played in the dirt, in the car on road trips, and up to the farm on those rainy days.
I always find summers just seem to disappear in the blink of an eye.   The time vanishes, hence the title of the quilt.

I am always just a little bit breathless when I see it, so no more chatting for me=)

A Ripple in Time

I have been busy, but some of the stuff is tutorials for Riley Blake and Pellon, so I can't show them to you yet.   But at the end of February I can=)

Ripple in Time is the name of my latest art quilt.   It describes the past summer where I would work away on my quilt wherever the kids were playing.   I would haul it outside on the deck as they played in the dirt, in the car on road trips, and up to camp on those rainy days.   I always find summers just seem to disappear in the blink of an eye.   The time just vanishes, hence the name, 'A Ripple in Time'.

This is the centre of my quilt.

Do you like the name?
