My First Art Quilt with Fancy Thread

It may not be big, but I am sure proud of it.  This is the first quilt I have ever done with fancy thread.   I always use the plain old thread you are supposed to only use for piecing.   Well not this time.  I did what I was told and did a little practice piece and then off to the races.  Below is my little scrap in which I did some practicing.

I had no idea at all how easy it is to use.   Imagine the possibilities!   I may, just may even get into Houston next year!

I used a shiny pink thread for the fabric door and a METALLIC thread for the door outline beside it.   The background is a shiny purple thread.  The theme for this is 'Passages' from the 'Quilting Arts' magazine.

Here is a closeup of my vintage lace, crushed bottle caps, beads and buttons.  Yes it is sideways.   No idea how that happened.

This is the finished piece.  The bottle caps and boring grey buttons are to resemble a walk way, my style=)
The write up I sent in with this quilt was:
This piece is showing doors as passages.   While one door may be visible and bright, there is always another door to choose from...such as life, and the paths always lead to both, you just have to sometimes look harder to find the other one.

I am so very happy I have figured out how to use those great threads!

This is a really interesting piece! I love the use of beads to outline the door and the crushed bottle caps. You are really taking off with this thread thing :)

It is looking great. Choosing interesting threads can become addictive and it can slow you down. The agony of indecision! LOL

So creative! I've got to try using the fancy thread.

Glad you are getting into those special threads -- I have done some experimenting with them in the past but have not got to them recently... perhaps your experiments will inspire me to think creatively for a bit and get away from the utility and plain quilts I have been doing for quick gifts or for donating... Something for myself is perhaps the next order of business...

I love those crushed bottle caps around those buttons. Tips or lesson sheet somewhere on that. Love the message of two doors. I do really admire your imagination and meeting those challenges.
