This ebook from McCall's Quilting has three cute and uncomplicated patterns for modern quilts. Each pattern offers some really informative technique tutorials. It was here that I learned about 'quilt as you go' in making a fun modern quilt.
I think my favourite is this one. It is called 'Baubles and Beads'.
'Rainbow Rhythm'
This quilt has a touch of black that really makes your eye wander around it.
'Lemon Squeezy'
This is the ultimate summer quilt, hands down.

Thanks, I love the ideas and the first one really ties together the beads by using the yellow 'string'. You could do a couple of rows, quilt them, then do the next couple of rows. The last one is 'quilt as you go', though, so that might be the quickest one to do.
