Quilting Arts Challenge

I have decided to try and enter more challenges this year.  One that came up is the Quilting Arts challenge.  I am an avid subscriber to their magazine and enjoy all the different opportunities they provide in their magazine.     This challenge is to produce an ATC - artist trading card.  The theme is 'What's In Your Heart' and it must be 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" and it will be swapped with another.

I have never made a quilt that size before.   I do know they like embellishments on their challenges, so I raided my kids tool boxes for unique embellishments.   Don't even ask if they are 3D, you know the answer=)

I started by cutting and stitching, recutting and more stitching.  I cleaned up the edges too.   How do you finish a quilt that size?  Please tell me that you don't actually bind it?

Then added my bling.
What do you think?   It is copper wire and copper looking beads that are attached to it.

I love that copper strip on it! Fabulous! How fun is that? I would think most people finish the edges like you did, or not at all. I saw someone at our quilt guild once (can't think of her name right now) who fuses (raw edge) bindings on some of her art quilts. I think that would be an easy and clean way to go, too!

I love it! How in the world anyone can make something so cool in such a small area I'll never know, but you've got such talent! Great job!

You did great! In my ATC trading days, I would have totally LOVED getting that one. (as a matter of fact, I would still love it)

I've seen fabric ATC's with a zig-zagged edge. I have to make a few too for a challenge and I did some research on YouTube:)

No need to bind it. I think it looks very finished!

I like your first try, but if you don't find it too forward, I'd make a few more and pick your best. A trick I learned, if you don't have Peltex or a thick stabilizer is to use some cardstock glued onto the back. Make a few test pieces, and get some inspiration from previous issues of the mag.. Maybe I will resubscribe - I haven't gotten the magazine for a few years now...

That is a really beautiful ATC. I have seen fabric postcards finished with a small ribbon that was folded around the edges and straight-stitched down, to give you another option.....

This brings the Shakespeare quote to mind - tho she be little - she be fierce! Love the copper and the way you finished off the edges. Wanted to invite to link up on Fridays to my blog - its called Off the Wall Fridays where art quilters are linking their weekly creative endeavors so that we can all stay connected.

What about double fold bias tape for binding? I love the copper pipe strapping.
