Giveaway and Mini Quilt Art

Thank you all!   I reached my goal of 150 followers before March 31st.   To celebrate I am going to have another giveaway because you guys are just the best!

First let me tell you a little bit about my mini pieces of art below.  I had small bits and scraps of fabric left over, after sewing up several items from the Sweet Divinity fabric.  I couldn't bear to part with it, so I decided to use a neat technique designed specifically for these little pieces.

To start, I ironed on some fusing to one side of the Timtex.  I chose this as it is quite firm and I wanted the piece to be sturdy.  Then I cut up all my bits of fabric into even smaller pieces.  Once this was done, I placed them on the Timtex in a fun pattern.   The first quilt I let the timtex show through, and the second one I overlapped all the pieces.

Apply heat to fuse them and you can be done.   I wanted to add a little extra so I got out my shiva paintstiks and stencils and played.   After curing for 24 hours I heat set it.   I fused on a backing, did some stitching and my little quilts are complete.

Onto my giveaway.  I have 5 fat quarters to give to one lucky fabric lover.   Here is what you have to do:

1.  Leave me a comment telling me what type of embellishing you want to learn about.
2.  Blog about this and it counts for 2, so leave me two comments.
3.  If you get a new follower to join, tell me their name and leave 3 comments.

I will make the draw on March 31st.   Good luck!

  3. I also can't believe I am the first person to comment... wow, that's never happened before. Hmm as far as embellishments go I really am only familiar with like applique or now from your post the fusible webbing stuff. I do see people using ric rac on quilts or lace, and I often wonder what the best way is to keep the lace on, the ric rac I can guess... but yeah.

  18. Any kind of embellishment you show is more than I already know. I tried some fusible web on the reverse of some fabric and then tried to blanket stitch on a block, and the piece I had fused kept going down into the needle hole. I was following the directions exactly as they were stated, or at least when I kept reading the instructions I thought I was following them. But I ended up with a mess. So yes, I could certainly learn from anything you post.

  25. I saw an earlier post on your blog (scooting around looking at the interesting posts!) about making paper beads. It didn't say too much about the how, although it did list supplies. I'd love to learn how you make them, if you paint or seal them, and then how to use them on a wallhanging or decorative quilt.
Beautiful, beautiful fabrics! (Hope I can win!)

  31. Alex Anderson had a lady on simply Quilts a long time ago who did bobbin work. She had a spare bobbin case & would change the tension on it to get different effects using different types of thread. I've never been able to find that episode again. Would love to learn more about it.

  43. I would like to learn about how to stitch embellishments onto a bed quilt so they will stay and are washable. For example, if add bits of crochet, or lace, or buttons. I've seen this on wall hangings etc, yet I make larger quilts that are used.
Second would be using crayons or colored pencils to add color to quilts - inexpensively and also washable.
Thanks for the survey and thank you for the lovely giveaway. I enjoy dropping by to read about your art quilts.

  49. Thanks very much for describing your technique with the fusible, Timtex and scraps of fabric. I do liberated patchwork with scraps, and I use scraps in small needleturned abstract landscapes. I think I'm ready to venture into quilts like the one you made. I've never used pastels on fabric (I've never taken an art course, either!), or paint sticks, so that's where I might start. I have some transfer/disperse dyes which work on poly fabric, and I need to try those again, too.
Thanks for the giveaway. I'm going to subscribe to the feed of your blog so I can read you each day.
