I Tried Stripping, Quilting That Is!

I am spending my summer in two different locations, one at home, and one when I am on vacation.   What's a girl to do when she is in love with quilting?   Make sure you have sewing machines wherever you go!   And fabric of course.

I found it too hard to move my large projects that are geared for shows, so I grabbed a box of scraps and brought them with me.   Inside this box were all these 2" strips.   I sat down last weekend and started sewing, and sewing, and sewing them together.   I think this may be called strip quilting=)  You can see that every so often I doubled up the same set of colours.

Once all ironed, I am debating about leaving as is and adding borders and binding.   I should mention this quilt is going to a child with a long term illness in our nearby hospital.   Or should I cut them into large squares and put them on point or alternate them with this fabric:

Any ideas? I am really leaning towards cutting it into squares and seeing what happens.

Yeah, my first thought was cut it up and keep designing! I love the color combos you have going on!

If you can, cut it into squares and either alternate with solids OR border the squares with solids. That would be what I would do.

The last (and only) time I made a strip quilt I felt like it needed a little something, so I appliqued big funky daisies, it gave the quilt a retro feel and was just what it needed. I never thought of cutting it up though, which I like the idea of too.

It would be interesting to cut the pieces into squares then into half square triangles. then put them together into a four-patch like a pinwheel.

Wow. That is amazing. I love all of the colors. I have no ideas for you, as you are infinitely more creative at this than I am, but go with your gut, you make great stuff! Just make sure to let us know how it turns out! I like the "daisies" idea (above) - not that you'd need daisies, per se, but a little applique is always a fun addition :)

I go for the squares on point...but then again, it looks great right now too...lol.

You won't be happy until you cut it up and make something extra special:)

I have no suggestions for you what to do with the stripey piecing... There are just too many variations, I'm sure you will find the perfect one!

I would also cut into squares and sashing or hst's and add some solids, like Gene Black and Rolanda suggested. Then you could add some appliqué like you love. It doesn't look like your work yet 18in any case.

I like the squares on point idea but you just do what turns you on. since it is a gift for a child I wouldn't get it too fussy because they will love it anyway. Blessings Sandra
