A friend mentioned she really wanted a Christmas table runner. I have a policy that I don't make Christmas gifts in November or December. It is too rushed and those months just get too crazy.
I broke my rule. She sent me the measurements of her table. The runner was to be 84" in length! That is not just a table runner, that is a table that ran off!
I found a fabulous idea and tips from my friend Linda on her blog and drafted up a pattern and set to work. It is all HST's.

Great quilt...84 inches...that is almost queen sized! :)
Very nice! My first quilt was a zig zag pattern so I am partial to them. :o) That is one LONG table! Long enough to feed an army. She is lucky to have a wonderful friend like you.

Merry Christmas!!
Wonderful - and so easy to do!

Very nice! But 84", WOW! How many people does this table seat?
My goodness - I thought my longest runner was amazing at 72 inches - yours is a record breaker, for sure! I love that it's HSTs....what fabrics did you use? They are absolutely cuter-mous! I like inventing new words! :)
looks absolutely beautiful on my table, yes I have a wonderful friend.
I've been sharing your wisdom in quilt stores and with friends since you posted this. What a GREAT idea to make Christmas more relaxing. No gift making in November and December for me either... starting next year. Thanks Jackie! :-)
Haha! If I didn't make them in November and December I would never make a Christmas present! LOL
